PARENTS/CARERS

Parents/carers often worry about what career and job opportunities will be available for their children when they leave school and a post-COVID economy provides particular challenges.  Qualifications are important of course, as well as a strong work ethic, but skills and experience are also important to prospective employers.

As parents/carers, you have a crucial role in influencing your children's decisions. The DYW strategy aims to help parents/carers understand ongoing changes in education and the importance of employability skills and experience in your child’s future success.

Developing the Outer Hebrides' Young Workforce, along with our key delivery partners are available to support parents/carers with opportunities to learn more about:

  • The benefits of work-based learning

  • The importance and relevance of the Apprenticeship family

  • Labour market data on growing industry sectors and career opportunities

  • Involvement with local schools

  • Local career opportunities

What is an apprenticeship?

By combining working and learning, an apprenticeship means your child gets the skills, experience and qualifications that help develop their career.
